XML-RPC on the iPhone

This week I’ve been porting a simple J2ME mobile phone application to the iPhone. The J2ME application allows users to login and exchange data with a web application via XML-RPC, so naturally I was keen to use the same server-side scripts for the iPhone app. As far as I know, there is no no specific open source framework available for XML-RPC on the iPhone, but the folks at WordPress for iPhone have rolled their own which is available under the GNU General Public License, and with a little fishing around I was able to get it up and running in my own app. Basic instructions after the jump…

WordPress 2.5

Wordpress logoWordPress 2.5 was released a couple of weeks ago and I’ve just updated here at the Kilbot Factory. Wow. This is not a minor release, they have almost completely redone the look of the admin section, particularly the ‘Write’ pages.

Most impressive for me is the upgrade to the rich text editor, WordPress still uses TinyMCE but they’ve upgraded to v.3 which seems to have ironed out a lot of the bugs. Anyone familiar with the old rich text editor will know it was frustrating at best, for most clients I would switch it off and tell them write in code view… not the best solution but much easier than trying to explain/teach the quirks of visual mode.
